By Bob Sears.
We in Christ's churches are how He now expresses Himself to our world, so we are responsible to adopt His opinions, not just our own. But is it FAIR to foist them on people who don't share the Bible's version of morality? No, it's not fair. Is it RIGHT to legally deny certain privileges (so-called "civil rights") to segments of our society just because they want something legalized that the Bible calls "wrong"? The answer must be Yes. How can it ever be right or good for a society to legitimize something that God opposes (Romans 1:20-27)? If keeping the Church and State separate means voters and legislators should not attempt to enforce the Bible's version of morality, how will they ever decide what's moral? Won't their society be doomed to blow wherever the loudest and strongest winds are headed? It's still true: "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing."
Well said brother, I have not heard it said better. This shall be my adoptive statement on the matter. It will only be a matter of time until even us here in the south will have to deal with that issue. God Bless

It's good to know that as followers of Jesus we don't have to all agree when it comes to politics;-)
Here, Jon Trott writes a well reasoned post on the other side of the issue...

Just curious. How far would you take this argument? Should we, as Christian also seek to make illegal all sins? Should we seek to make divorce illegal? That marriage should only be a religious union before God? Adultery subject to jail time? Should homosexuality itself be illegal?
I don't agree (from a personal, spiritual perspective) that homosexual marriage is right, but I had a hard time justifying adding a constitutional amendment that would prevent it. For the record, I abstained from voting.
